Good tips for all teachers

This is not a teacher telling you how wonderful he or she is, and telling you how to be just him them. It is a compilation of short, yet good tips in a variety of categories, such as classroom management, dealing with parents, etc. I am a 13 year teaching veteran, and i found it extremely useful. Some of them were things I already do, some were things that for whatever reason may not apply to me, but I discovered some things I could not believe I had not thought of doing before. For this extremely reasonable price it is worth purchasing.

Solid tips for maintaining passion and focus

I normally see little value in books like this, but this one is unique. It captures a lot of the core values/principles/practices that I see as being fundamental to good teaching. If you can keep these things in mind, and moreover take them to heart, it will be almost impossible not to teach effectively and make a lasting impact on students. When you feel overwhelmed as a new teacher and looking to make excuses for how hard your job is and how much is working against you, read this book and remind yourself that you are on the front lines, you do have the power to make change, and you can't give up on yourself or your kids.

A good general information/ideas for teachers

With suggestions for classroom teaching, student relations, classroom management, working w/others, and personal development, 501 is definitely packed with ideas for every aspect of a teacher's life. Some of the tips we all hear in our EDU classes, some are thought provoking, and some are just plain common sense. 501 is exactly what the title says it is - a book filled with TIPS. It is not a textbook, an outline, or a methodology. It does not go into detail or explanation of how to implement these tips in the classroom. If you're looking for a step-by-step instruction manuel to solve your management problems or to lay out a lesson procedure, this is NOT the book that will help you. If, however, you are looking for suggestions, ideas, or a place to START, where you can then take over and use the tip to your particular need(s), then this IS the book that may help you.

James M. Johnston is a Professor of Psychology at Auburn University. He received his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Florida. He is an Associate Editor of Behavioral Technology Today.

Good enough... let's read.

It's the book I needed. It's not as easy a read but her, it's grad school. It is what it is. Sorry I don't sound so enthusiastic but some of this material is redundant. The read could have been simpler and less repetitive, is all. The seller was great, by the way. Book arrived in the condition they said it would.

Specifically, Lombardo ties organized crime to the emergence of machine politics in America's urban centers. From nineteenth-century vice syndicates to the modern-day Outfit, Chicago's criminal underworld could not have existed without the blessing of those who controlled municipal, county, and state government. These practices were not imported from Sicily, Lombardo contends, but were bred in the socially disorganized slums of America where elected officials routinely franchised vice and crime in exchange for money and votes. This book also traces the history of the African-American community's participation in traditional organized crime in Chicago and offers new perspectives on the organizational structure of the Chicago Outfit, the traditional organized crime group in Chicago.

Badly Needed Scholarly Approach

This book is an objective accounting of organized crime in Chicago from a historical and sociological perspective. You won't find fanciful stories and romanticized tales here. Just facts supported by solid research, along with the author's views on the true origins of organized crime in Chicago, namely, a corrupt political system willing to support and protect anybody that provided money and votes. My father lived and worked in this cesspool his whole life, and understanding just how bad it was has helped me understand him a little better. Trying to stay above it all was like swimming against the tide. Thanks Professor Lombardo for filling a huge gap in the literature.

Great book, this is a researched, well informed book. The author looks at the subject as if it was a college class study. And it raises a valid theory that Italians didnt bring OC to Chicago, nor America for that matter. The black Policy Kings are mentioned in the book as well, such as Theodore "Teddy" Roe, who was half Italian himself, yet never backed down from Giancana & The Outfit, whom were trying to take over his policy racket. Again, this book takes the educational approach. If youre merely interested in the "we killed this guy, garroted this guy and buried him on an indian reserve. Great book

This is a great book. There is a little background on the type of alcohol or sometimes the drink which I find very interesting. It also has a lot of supplemental information to start the book such as stocking your bar, types of glasses, etc.

It is important to note that the index has drinks by key ingredient (i.e. if you want to use up some vermouth you can search by “vermouth” and it will list the drinks containing it), alternatively there is also an index where you can search by cocktail name. I find myself searching by both of these indices, so it is key that they are both in there.

Sure you could Google your way to the recipes, but it’s nice to flip open a recipe book like this one, flag key pages and make some notes in it. An old fashioned approach to go with your Old Fashioned!

AMAZING

This book is AMAZING. If it is not in this book ... then you probably don't really need it. It handles the basic set up of a family bar or any small bar for that matter. It gives recipes and glassware advice and even shows pictures!

Being a recent graduate of a professional Bar Tender's Course I found it to be informative and useful for beginner to expert. I would buy again if I lost this one. I encourage anyone interested in the field of mixology to have one in their library.

They absolutely loved it. After thumbing through it myself

I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend's parents. They absolutely loved it. After thumbing through it myself, it not only contains recipes, but explains the origins of different types of liquor (i.e. Scotch Whiskey vs. American Whiskey vs. Irish Whiskey). It's an interesting read and has some decent recipes, mostly the classics. It even has a hangover cure section (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cures). It has a section on how to stock your own personal bar too! Great buy, necessity for someone who doesn't know how to make drinks off the top of his/her head.

Transformed my depression and crisis with food for thought and practice

I stumbled upon this book after years of dealing with growing fear, anxiety and anger-related issues that were greatly impacting my private and professional life, robbing me of a good night's sleep and just plain making life miserable. When I bought this book, I was battling moderate depression that was transitioning to severe depression, I knew I had to act fast before it completely incapacitated me. I noticed in the comments that someone had recovered from a moderate depression and I had also heard talks by Thich Nhat Hahn online which attracted my interest with their 'unconventional' approach. I was ready to put any good advice into practice and not just for the short term.

Not only was the mere reading of this book comforting and relieving for me, but the exercises it introduces helped me transform fear in an unconventional way. Though in the presence of intense emotions, perhaps even in a panic attack, my first reflex was to run, to find a way to escape, the exercises suggest meeting it head on - but not with aggression or in a challenging manner as proposed by some of the inevitably flawed techniques I have tried - but with compassion, curiosity and concern. Thich Nhat Hahn suggests that we observe our emotions, acknowledge them - even handle them with the concern we would for a crying baby through deep listening - and begin to work our way back into the present moment, back to ourselves.

By sticking to the exercises in this book and filling my mind with good food for thought (reading more books on this subject, watching dharma by Thich Nhat Hahn on youtube), I moved from being consumed by despair, fear, frustration and the psychosomatic illness that accompanies it to being on the road to recovery. About four and half weeks after starting the book and encountering 'Thay's' approach to 'the art of suffering' I am working again at full capacity, sleeping through the night for over two weeks now, restoring harmony to my relationships and starting to enjoy life again, which is no small feat considering where I started only a month ago. I am also experiencing a clarity of mind that I have almost never experienced. As my back was up against a wall, I started practicing his exercises right away and multiple times every day in a gentle and cautious fashion. I believe that this and good food for thought were what got me back on track - without drugs or any other treatment of any kind.

I have read many books on how to deal with fear, phobias and panic attacks, still my depression and anxiety continued to advance and cripple my life even further. I stumbled upon the books by Thich Nhat Hahn quite literally in my darkest hour. I hope that my story can give others in crisis and despair the hope to carry on. Barely a month after starting this book, I am largely restored, but still have a ways to go so I will be continuing to practice and to gain insight through introspection, mindfulness and reading more Thich Nhat Hahn not to mention others like him. As I regain my strength, I am compelled to share this experience to help others suffering like I did.

I found this book very beautiful, very moving, and very helpful for dealing with my fearfulness. Actually, I felt so grateful to Thich Nhat Hunh while reading it, that I was in tears of gratitdude to him for writing this incredible book for all suffering human beings. My heart was filled with love for all in little crying screaming babies still suffering within me and was able to embrace them with love, instead of wanting to throw them out the window for not being able to grow up. I am 84 years old and up to now all this was frozen within me and I was afraid to go there; I will go further and say I was unable to go there -- nothing could make me go there. I can now begin to truly love all my inner babies and children and embrace them, as well as those of rest of us human beings. I then got inspired to read his book Reconciling with the Inner Child, which was even more inspiring and helpful. These books are truly gifts to the world from a great being.

Like all the books of Thich Nhat Hahn, this book introduces Zen philosophy and the Zen concept of mindfulness using a lot of metaphors easily understandable by the layman.

This book has a particular emphasis on the fight against modern plagues such as stress, anxiety, depression and fear.

Although written by a world famous Zen master, this book is not about religion in general or buddhism in particular.

It is about using the spiritual and moral practices of Zen philosophy to help one find balance, calm, happiness, joy by practicing mindfulness, compassion, respect, virtue and wisdom, in regular modern life.

Although deeply spiritual, his book does not contain any bigotry or proselytism.

It is a wonderful book who brought me a deep sense of serenity, inner piece, and joy.

It is a wonderful, happy, warm, optimistic book.

My Besties PT 2

I really enjoyed part 2 as much as I joined part 1. Boo was still the HBIC. She came back stronger than ever. The girls did what they knew best, but they had help. Good thing they did because it could've ended very bad. Heidi was hilarious with her choice of outfits, but she was lethal with those hands. There were a few casualties; some were necessary a nd some were not. Lil Man is still causing unwanted problems because of something that happened in his past. Who's going to come out victorious?

I really feel so sorry for Young Meech to lose his Auntie that practically raise him and his sister that he just got to know that's an hard pill to swallow poor thing. Lil Man gots to go that niggah is getting to reckless like really though I love this book just like I love part 1 but you went all out in part 2 I can't wait til part 3 drops and please let my boy Meechie get his revenge on lil man I'm mean come back on top to let That psycho niggah know he run this ship kmsl

LOL.....yassssss hunty I LOVED LOVED LOVED reading MY BESTIES PT. 1&2. You left no stones unturned. I enjoyed the storyline, it was definitely a page turner. The humor you brought out in the charters was a plus (that Heidi is a fool lol). I won't give the story away so I'm just gonna say I will be looking out for more books from you, you have a new fan.....keep um coming and don't make us wait to long for MY BESTIES, THE DOWNFALL!!!!
