About the Author
Philip Cox lives in Hertfordshire, England with his wife and two daughters. He had a long career in banking, reaching the post of Branch Manager, until 2009, when he took a break from financial services to be a stay-at-home father. Between changing diapers/nappies he wrote 'After the Rain', which was published in 2011. 'Waterloo Sunset' was published early the following year. 'She's Not Coming Home is his latest book.

Interesting story, weak ending

Good premise, definitely kept me reading wanting the mystery solved. The solution was too slick, too fast, too slapped together as if the author just couldn't figure out a good ending and just said, "I'll just write any old thing just to get it done."
Left too many unanswered questions. Very shallow on characterization and what made anyone act as they did.

Not impressed

I am by no means a writer, but I am an Avid book reader.
This book was way too unbelievable. The story was simple and boring.
The characters were likeable, but unrealistic and out of character also.
NO One acted the way you would think a real person would under the circumstances.
The story was set in Boston, but the whole time I was reading it I got the impression I was in England.
I actually went back to the beginning of the story to make sure I was not mistaken.
I have never written a negative review. And I plan on giving this author another shot.
But I was extremely let down by this novel.

About the Author
Brad Wilcox is an associate professor at Brigham Young University where he also works with such programs as Especially for Youth and Campus Education Week. He is the best-selling author of many books including Tips for Tackling Teenage Troubles and Straight Talk for Parents: What Teenagers Wish They Could Tell You. His children's picture book, Hip, Hip, Hooray for Annie McRae! was a top finalist for the children's choice award in Utah.

Jerrick Robbins is the oldest of seven children and has his fair share of experiences that taught him the importance of strengthening the family. He has seen firsthand how families can grow closer together through enduring hardships. His short story, "It's OK to Cry", has been published in Lessons from My Parents: 100 Shared Moments that Changed Our Lives.

Fantastic Advice!

Marriage and family can be difficult, and most people can agree on that. It rarely turns out to be the fairy tale many of us imagine it to be. This book offers helpful and practical ways to make your home life peaceful and generally happy. Life can more closely resemble those things we most desire.

I thought this was a really good book. The advice is well thought out and very practical for almost everyone. Sometimes I would find myself wondering why I wasn't doing some of these things already. They just made so much sense. Each chapter begins with an active way to improve things, and then the chapter goes on to explain what this means and how to go about it. There are a lot of real-life examples, and these really help to make you see how these things can apply to many different lives and circumstances.

Much of the advice comes down to prioritizing the things you want in live and learning to truly love your family. It sounds fairly simple when written like this, but I think we all know that it is much more complex. I thought the book made a brilliant point in that any kind of life can be difficult. If we want something to be different, we should remember that in fact life wouldn't be any easier. There will always be things we have to work through, so we really need to learn to love our life as it is while recognizing that there are always things to improve and work on. I was inspired by this book to really focus on the big picture of my family and not get so hung up on the details. This is a book that will help people to refocus on the important parts of their family and ultimately have a much better life.

Really like this book!

Despite having already 'raised' my two older kids, this gem of a book is still well worth the read. Definitely something I can turn to when I need batch of fresh ideas or even just a parental pick-me-up. Another plus is that this is not some giant tome that will forever sit on the bookshelf of good intentions; the formatting keeps the subjects in an easy-to-flip to order, as well as the paragraph to two of content per subject is just right for busy parents who don't have a whole lot of discretionary time.

This book is a must-read for all parents! I'm not a parent yet, but I've always been interested in the "secret" to parenting because I'm anxious about how to raise my future children. Thinking ahead can never hurt, right? Well, I read this book, and I loved it! The stories are fun as well as touching. I believe that any parent that implements these principles can create better relationships with his or her children. I am excited to try them out on my own children someday. I especially like the Principles of Action at the end of the chapters; they give me something to do to improve and discover about myself, especially in dealing with my family.

Among economists and rational choice theorists, there is growing awareness that most, if not all, of the social outcomes that are of interest to explain are at least partly a function of institutional constraints. Yet the role of institutions is negligible both in general equilibrium theory and in most neoclassical economic models. There is a burgeoning substantive interest in institutions ranging from social movements, to formal organizations, to states, and even international regimes.

Rational choice theorists have made great strides in elucidating the effects of institutions on a variety of social outcomes, but they have paid insufficient attention to the social dynamics that lead to the emergence of these institutions. Typically, these institutions have been assumed to be a given, rather than considered as outcomes requiring explanation in their own right. Sociological theorists, in contrast, have long appreciated the role of social structural constraints in the determination of outcomes but have neglected the role of individual agents.

Michael Hechter is professor emeritus in the department of Sociology at the University of Washington. He is the author of numerous books. He became an Elected Fellow to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2004 and has been featured in Who's Who. He is also currently on editorial boards for a numerous amount of journals.

Karl-Dieter Opp is professor of sociology at Univesitat Leipzig. He has been a Fellow of the European Academy of Sociology since 1999 and has been member of the Council and Treasurer since 2000. He is also current on the advisory board for the magazine Mind and Society.

Reinhard Wippler is professor of theoretical sociology at the University of Utrecht and scientific director of the Interuniversity Center for Sociological Theory and Methodology.

Michael Hechter is professor of sociology at the University of Arizona. He is currently serving as visiting professor at the University of Washington, and before that was a Fellow of New College at Oxford University. He is the author of Principles of Group Solidarity, and editor of The Microfoundations of Macrosociology and Social Institutions.

Wow! Such transparency! I loved the personal advice given at the end. It was definitely a page turner! I think it's important to pass along the wisdom she obtained just following the fairy tale of getting married. It was definitely an eye opening read for me as I am a young woman not at all far removed from Ysidra's desires for marriage and it was refreshing to have her perspective.
