Equation 4: From Equation 3: SN2* = D2* x a2 x m2 + SN1*
Equation 5: D3* > or = (SN3 - SN2*) / (a3 x m3)
B./ Example 16-3, Page 455:
1./ Design verification against Equation (16.8), Page 453.
a1 x D1* = 2.52
a2 x D2* x m2 = 0.988
a3 x D3* x m3 = 0.075 x 7.5 x 0.90 = 0.506
SN provided = a1 x D1* + a2 x D2* x m2 + a3 x D3* x m3 = 2.52 + 0.988 + 0.506 = 4.014
SN required to protect the subgrade = 6.50 : which is larger than SN provided; i.e., Highway Thickness Design does not meet objective.
