Our architects and I agree this is a must have for people who design buiding envelopes. The author is clearly knowledgable about theory and practice and writes clearly for architects and designers.

I purchased this book several years ago. I am a curtain wall and aluminum fenestration designer. I come back to this book over and over, with almost every project. The basic concepts and principles in terms of control of water, air, heat and humidity are here described, and then applied to different facade types: bricks, EIFS... A most have if you are in the trade of facade design and construction

My current favorite teaching resource

I don't know how I have taught reading to high school students without discovering this book before. It speaks to my particular passion - teaching struggling older students to read, understand what they read and enjoy what they read. I am writing and highlighting all over the pages of the book and have sticky notes marking many pages. I am on Spring Break and can hardly wait to get back and try some of the ideas with my most challenging class. It is absolutely never too late. I hate hearing teachers, especially special educators or reading teachers, say that students have to learn by third grade or they will never learn to read. That is a self-fulfilling prophecy that damages our students and creates new weapons for our legislators to use against teachers and students.

Useful for ALL teachers!

Literacy is very important in all subjects. If students don't understand what they're reading it's up to teachers to help provide tools that will help them. Tovani does a great job reaching to non English content teachers and gives great examples of how we can all help our students. My favorite take-away from this book is that reading comprehension becomes more difficult at the secondary level-that's when students need most help- ironically that's where a lot of teachers may have the "they can sink or swim" attitude. Tovani provides us with life savers in this easy to read and relate to book.

I love this book

I love this book. The strategies are incredible and have helped my students. The only issue I have is that the strategies in the book are geared towards a full reading class. I teach English, my school doesn't offer a reading class for students who aren't English Language Learners. My students need to learn how to read more effectively, and it would be nice if there were more classroom tips that could be embedded in other curriculum. Most of these chapters are structured around a full lesson that builds on another.

Maimonides, one of the preeminent personalities of medieval Jewish history, was a jurist, philosopher, expert in Jewish law, physician at the court of Saladin and a respected and dedicated communal leader. Given all that, it's difficult to understand the decision to present Maimonides's legacy primarily through the lens of his work as a physician. The 12th century was a time of stagnation in the history of medicine, and the author himself concedes that Maimonides contributed very little that was new or innovative to the field. By contrast, his jurisprudential magnum opus, the Mishne Torah, constituted a groundbreaking work in its own day and continues to be authoritative almost a millennium later. Although Nuland acknowledges this in a chapter on Maimonides's religious scholarship, it is dwarfed by the overarching concern with medicine—which seems the primary interest of Nuland, a clinical professor of surgery at Yale. The author does a serviceable job of stitching together this slight, popular biography of the larger-than-life Maimonides, but his writing is marred by an overwrought prologue and some glib generalizations. Reputedly the greatest figure in Judaism after his namesake, Moses Maimonides (1138 [not, as long supposed, 1135]-1204) was also a great physician. That second identity (he has a third as a philosopher, though no one now comprehends his Guide for the Perplexed, and a fourth as a judge) furnishes the surgeon--author of the National Book Award-winning How We Die (1994) entree into the life of this medieval intellectual titan. Like disproportionately many Jewish sons, Maimonides became a doctor in obedience, Nuland thinks, to the Lord's injunction to his people to choose life. In chapters centered on Maimonides' travels, three great books, and medical papers, Nuland argues that that obedience shows in more than Maimonides' medical career. Maimonides was devoted to sustaining the Jews as a people, and out of that, to human life generally. If he was otherwise a physician of his time, bound by the authority of Hippocrates and Galen, he believed that reason and observation should also inform prescription. Five stars because fairly short, readable, and informative about a Giant figure of early medicine who contributed much to the ethics and personal commitment to healing his community's spiritual and physical malaise in an inspiring way. I knew little of him but his name until reading this book.

All of Dr. Nuland's books are well worth reading. "Maimonides" is different from all of the other books I've read by him, in that it was narrative, and did not deal with a modern topic. However, it was extremely intriguing and informative. It gave a fascinating insight into both the cultural circumstances of that historical period, as well as into the personality and genius of a unique person. I believe that the author's special gift is to take complex and confusing information and synthesize it into a form which is not only meaningful but fun to read. I am reading Nuland's books more for inspiration and enjoyment than for anything else, and I have been extremely blessed by all of them.

Dr. Maimonides

Dr. Nuland "biography" of Maimonides focusses mostly on the sage as a physician, with much of the rest of his life sketchy at best. In fact, the first chapter virtually ignores the subject and instead describes the author's views on why so many Jews became physicians over the centuries. That being said, Dr. Nuland's book is well written, gives historical insights into medicine in the 12th century period, and is easy to read. I have not read any of the other biographies of Maimonides, several of which are cited by Dr. Nuland, and therefore cannot judge whether the paucity of details of Maimonides life presented other than medical is a intentional or the result of the actual absence of data.

‘These were flawed years for the Australian game, its players and its decision-makers’

In 2007, Australia won the Ashes Series against England in a 5-0 whitewash, the first time this had been achieved in an Ashes series since 1921. In 2014, Australia repeated the 5-0 whitewash. In between these two successes were many failures: both on and off the field.

At the end of the Ashes Series in 2007, Justin Langer, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne each retired from Test Cricket. Damien Martyn had retired earlier in the series. Everyone expected that the retirements of four such successful players would have a significant impact on the Australian team, but none of us expected it would be as significant as it was.

So, what happened and how did the Australian team recover? Daniel Brettig is a journalist who writes about cricket and has added the reflections of a number of key Australian cricket figures to his own observations in writing this book. It makes for fascinating reading: a case study in succession planning, in management of individuals and of adapting to changing circumstances.

During that seven year period, the changes included: Twenty20 cricket became more significant in Australia creating its own set of headaches for cricket management; Michael Clarke replaced Ricky Ponting as the Australian captain; and Darren Lehmann became the third Australian Cricket coach since John Buchanan retired in 2007. During the same period, there were a series of controversies: ‘Monkeygate’ - the alleged racial abuse of Andew Symonds by Harbhajan Singh; the sacking of Simon Katich which followed a dressing room incident between Katich and Michael Clarke; the horror of losing three Ashes Series (2009, 2011 and 2013); the ‘homework’ saga and the firing of Mickey Arthur as Australian coach; and the Argus Review into Cricket Australia.

Finally, under coach Darren Lehmann (appointed just weeks before the Ashes loss in 2013), Australia wins the Ashes in 2014. Success at last!

What I enjoyed most about this book were the insights offered by those players and members of the coaching and management staff into the events of the period. Many of the attempts to manage incidents were reactionary, without (seemingly) much thought being given to either team building or long term consequences. There are questions, too, about how involved the captain and coach should be involved in selection, about how younger players should be welcomed and mentored, about succession planning, and striking a balance between the needs of individuals and the needs of the team. Did Cricket Australia do enough to support Andrew Symonds after ‘Monkeygate’? Oh, and what is being done to foster spin bowling?

This is an interesting study of personalities and of management in a game that many of us love. I hope that the current board of Cricket Australia learns from the mistakes of the past.

another fantastic book

Susan Tassone has done it again. All her books on devotions for the Holy Souls are great. This is one of her best. It includes a holy hour for the holy souls and chapter after chapter of prayers for them. It is a fantastic resource for prayers for every category of soul in purgatory and everyone to pray to for them - Jesus, Blessed Mother, Saints, litanies, etc. Well worth the money. I ordered a second copy to put in the Adoraton Chapel of my Church. I would recommend this book to everyone who is Catholic. It has caused me to start praying more consistently for the Holy Souls again.
My only complaint would be her 3 novenas in the front of the book. The first has good infomation to read and no suggested prayers, although there are plenty of prayers in the rest of the book to use. The second and third are way too short on info and prayers. She would have been better off just to make it into an information chapter instead of calling them novenas.

This book has a variety of prayers for the souls in purgatory. It is good to take to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. There is a lot of knowledge and we can't pray enough for the souls.

Fantastic, up to date resource

This book is exactly what every lawyer needs to succeed on the internet. Actually, although this was written primarily for attorneys, the information in this book would benefit any business seeking to increase their presence on the internet. This is a short read that is full of very detailed information. The specific instructions, including the timing of each step will help the novice and experience SEO avoid common, costly mistakes. I was expecting a decent overview, but was blown away by the current, detailed content in this little treasure.

I have a lot of experience in SEO and still learned a great deal reading this book. HIGHLY Recommended.

Recently finished Online Law Practice Strategies. I now have a better understanding of how Goggle search rankings work. The book opened my eyes to how important online marketing is to client development today, as well as the impact that social and mobile will have in the future. I'm fairly sophisticated in marketing (For a lawyer) and have studied with Jay Abraham and many other top marketers over the years.
I have a highly ranked legal web site www.AutoAccidemt.com and was nonetheless blown away by all the great information in this book.
I now have another 20 or so items added to my "To do" marketing list over the next few months.

Highly Recommend this book. If you read one marketing book a year, and you're a lawyer, this should be it.
